Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer made history becoming the first player to score four goals in the first half of a match. The England international achieved this feat in a 20-minute burst during Chelsea’s 4 – 2 win against Brighton on Saturday.
Brighton took the lead in the seventh minute through Georginio Rutter before Palmer equalized for the Blues in the 21st minute. He again was back on the score sheet after converting a penalty 28th minute.
Just three minutes later, Palmer slotted home a magnificent free kick to give Chelsea a two-goal lead but Quomah Baleba pulled one back for Brighton making it 3 – 2. Palmer completed his haul of the day in the 41st minute with the teams heading for the break with a 4 – 2 scoreline.
“I should’ve had five or six,” Palmer remarked after the match. “I was frustrated when I missed my first chance, but with the way they played with a high defensive line, I knew there would be many opportunities.”
This isn’t Palmer’s first four-goals match; He accomplished the same feat last season when Chelsea triumphed 6 – 0 over Everton. Remarkably, it was his 39th appearance for the Blues after transferring from Manchester City last season. Last season, he scored 22 goals coming second after top scorer Erling Haaland with 27. Palmer has already scored six goals this season under the new coach Enzo Maresca.
