This decision by Sakaja comes amid speculation that the Nairobi County government would cancel Christmas on Gen Zs and specifically Eric Omondi who is also planning to hold parallel Mashujaa Day Celebrations in the park
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja took to his X handle to clarify that all Kenyans have access to the park but they don’t need to reserve it for a single purpose use on a public holiday as it is a public park
“A public park is, however, not available to be reserved for exclusive use during a Public Holiday. Other Kenyans will also want to enjoy.” Stated Sakaja
Kenyans on Twitter (Now X) were already venting their rage toward the City Governor through the trending hashtag ‘Uhuru Park,’ with some claiming that the security agencies were trying to deny Eric Omondi and others access to the park.
“Kujeni tu mmoja mmoja mjae hakuna haja ya kuomba. Uhuru Park has been open and remains open to the public every day. Every Kenyan is allowed to come and is welcome to enjoy their Park.” Sakaja clarified
Celebrated comedian turned activist Eric Omondi has called on Kenyans to turn on Mashujaa day on Sunday, 20th of October in remembrance of those who lost their lives during the Anti-Finance bill demonstrations.
There however, have emerged divisions among the Gen Zs as Morara Kebaso has equally called for a separate meeting in Narok.
The government will be celebrating the day in Kwale County.
