Trouble is brewing for National Irrigation Authority Chief Executive Officer Charles Mutinda Muasya over the alleged embezzlement of funds meant for mega water projects in Murang’a County.
The projects listed include the Kitune Water Plaster Pan believed to have cost KES 25,000,000, and The Methi Earth Swan Earth Dam in Kimorori Ward, whose scope of works included desilting and spillway rehabilitation estimated to cost KES 20,000,000. Additionally, in the works was the Karemaini Water Pan valued at KES 15,000,000 and the Kabuta Water Pan which was estimated to cost KES 18,000,000.
According to sources within the Irrigation Authority, the CEO, Mr. Muasya is said to have allegedly awarded the tenders for the works mentioned above to his close cronies, who have not delivered.
A close spot-check by RTC News has unearthed that the projects haven’t kicked off, but insiders within the National Irrigation Authority’s Finance Department, the funds for the projects were allegedly approved and disbursed to the entities that won the tenders.
Concerned citizens who were the expected beneficiaries of the projects are now calling on the EACC to intervene and possibly investigate the financial activities of the bank accounts that are tied to or associated to the National Irrigation Board CEO.
The CEO, Mr Muasya, was not available for comment by the time this article was due to be published .
