KeRRA Defies Government Directive, Proceeds with Internal Recruitment

Reports have emerged suggesting that the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has proceeded with an internal recruitment exercise despite a government directive barring parastatals marked for merging from conducting new hires and promotions.

A whistleblower has raised concerns over what has been termed a blatant disregard of government policy, urging relevant authorities to intervene and ensure transparency in the process.

The recruitment, which is said to be ongoing, has drawn parallels to a similar incident in 2022, when KeRRA reportedly hired external candidates for positions that had been advertised as internal, locking out long-serving employees who had been with the organization for over ten years.

The forwarded complaint, which includes a copy of the advertisement, suggests that history may be repeating itself, raising questions about whether the recruitment is being manipulated to benefit select individuals.

With KeRRA among the state agencies set for merging under the ongoing parastatal reforms, the reported hiring contravenes existing government policy, putting the legitimacy of the process into question.
