After hours of speculation regarding who will replace Gareth Southgate as manager of the England men’s national team, reports now indicate that former Chelsea FC manager Thomas Tuchel will take the helm.

Tuchel, who expressed interest as early as July has reportedly agreed to personal terms with the English Football Association and is expected to sign soon, pending an official announcement.

The German coach led Chelsea to UEFA Champions League glory in 2020/21 before being dismissed at the beginning of the 2022/23 season following the arrival of new owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

After his time at Chelsea, Tuchel had a year-long stint with Bundesliga club Bayern where he secured an 11th consecutive Bundesliga title, followed by a second-placed finish the following season.

He also guided Bayern to the semi-finals of last season’s Champions League, where they were defeated by eventual winners Real Madrid.

Other managers who were said to be in contention to replace Gareth South Gate include Spaniard Pep Guardiola who was the main contender and Newcastle’s Eddie Howe.
