Controversy and Corruption at Athi Water Works – Whistle-blowers Urge President Ruto to Crack the Whip

Kenyans have petitioned President William Ruto to move with speed and effect changes at the controversy laden Athi Water Works Development Agency.

This publication has unearthed serious corruption taking place at the agency and those in the know have been threatened to keep quiet if they expose.

Those in the know say that Engineer Joseph Kamau is leading a cabal of corrupt individuals to siphon public coffers through the Northern Collector Tunnel Bulk Water system.

“Kamau is a very shrewd guy. He has been all over media trying to explain what the agency is doing in the name of hiding the graft taking place here at the agency. Corruption is on its highest level here. Kamau thinks he’s connected because of our current chair who says he knows everyone including the president,” said a staff who requested for anonymity.

Of concern is the completed Sh 1.2 Billion Makutano- Kenol water project.

Kamau who was a close ally of dismissed Engineer Michael Thuita are said to have ripped big from the project.

“Engineer Kamau is a spanner boy of Thuita. They stole a lot while together and we still wonder why the president allows him to continue being here,” said a source.

The aggrieved staff have also poked holes on Northern Collector Tunnel water pressure which Kamau is said to be eating from together with Charles Karondo.

Recently , Athi Water announced that Residents of Muranga can now enjoy refreshing water from Ndakaini/Thika Dam through the Northern Collector Tunnel Bulk Water System, which supplies over 5 million litres of clean water daily to Gatanga residents, reducing the dependence on boreholes and untreated water.

Insiders say that Kamau raked millions of money from this money which is of substandard quality.

It’s only a matter of time for President William Ruto to act and crack the whip.
