Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi has Wednesday morning led a high-level consultative forum on the review of the Kenya Foreign Policy at KICC, Nairobi.

The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs invited President William Ruto to share his views and input ahead of the consolidation of the final draft to be launched on December 2nd, 2024.

Mudavadi emphasized that Kenya’s foreign policy-2024 must align with the dynamic realities of both domestic and international environments.

He said this is in pursuit of national economic transformation necessitates hinged on a forward- looking, robust, patriotic, and people-centred policy that will attract investments and secure Kenya’s rightful place on the global stage.

“Under the leadership of President Ruto, who has redefined and elevated Kenya’s international profile over the past two and a half years, we are committed to aligning the 2014 Foreign Policy with the aspirations of all Kenyans. The revised policy will anchor Kenya’s position globally while promoting and protecting our shared values and vision for the future.” said Mudavadi.

“With Cabinet approval, we will move to consolidate it into a sessional paper for parliamentary consideration. Thereafter, we will roll out a nationwide sensitization campaign under the “Foreign Policy Mashinani” mantra to engage citizens on the significance of this policy in shaping Kenya’s future.” he added.

Mudavadi said Kenyans must begin to reflect and interrogate the rationale behind the reviewing of the Kenya Foreign Policy with an aim of ensuring that Kenya’s diplomatic engagements bear fruit and as a result create tangible benefits to every Kenyan.

“Today, many of our friend and partners internationally always reflect and ask, and what is Kenya’s position on a certain issue, what is Kenya thinking and what does Kenya say?” he posed.

He emphasized that there is a need to anchor and support Kenya’s foreign policy through legislation, a reason behind the formulation of a sessional paper to be presented to parliament at the culmination of the review process.
