The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested one Peter Odhiambo Agoro, Chairperson of the Consortium of Civil Societies in Kenya over extortion of Kes.3 million from a Chief Executive Officer of a State Corporation.

The suspect has been escorted to EACC Integrity Centre Police Station where he is currently held for processing.

Confirming the arrest, the Commission, through its Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi, revealed that the civil society leader demanded the Kes. 3 million bribe as an inducement and facilitation fees so as not to pursue and publicize accusations of procurement malpractices he claimed to have against the Parastatal CEO.

The suspect accepted the complainant’s plea to reduce the demanded amount to Kes. 2 million which was to be paid in two instalments of Kes1.5 million today and Kes.500,000 later.

Unknown to the suspect, the complainant had already notified EACC of the matter.

The Commission undertook an operation this morning leading to the arrest of the suspect after receiving the first instalment of Kes.1.5 million which was in USD10,800 USD and Kes.100,000.

The accused person is set to be arraigned in court.
